How Target-Size Compression Works
The calculator treats your KB or MB value as a maximum file size. It tests output quality and, when necessary, smaller pixel dimensions until it finds a result that fits below that limit.
Because browsers encode images in discrete steps, an output can be close to the target without matching the exact byte count. A visibly acceptable image below the upload limit is usually the useful result.

Can I compress an image to exactly 100 KB?
The tool searches for the closest result at or below 100 KB. Exact byte-for-byte matching is not always possible because browser image encoders use discrete settings.
Will compression change the image dimensions?
It first adjusts encoding quality. If that is not enough to meet the limit, it may reduce pixel dimensions as well.
Which output format should I choose?
JPG is widely compatible for ordinary photos. WebP often produces a smaller web image and can retain transparency. This compressor outputs WebP or JPG, not PNG.
